The Advocacy Program seeks
to promote commitment to laws and policies that
incorporate population variables, gender perspective
and a human rights language. In addition, IAPG advocates
for a stronger parliamentarian role at the United
Nations Special Sessions and Conferences, and in
the outcome documents negotiated during these sessions.
Activities in this area include active participation
at U.N. preparatory committees and related meetings,
raising awareness through information dissemination
and capacity building activities.
The Information Program serves as a clearinghouse
of information for parliamentarians, policy makers
and individuals interested in laws and policies
related to population and development and international
human rights instruments related to population and
development and women’s rights. Upon request,
IAPG provides technical assistance on specific issues,
as well as policy analysis and information on legislative
advances in countries in the region. A quarterly
newsletter is distributed throughout the
region focusing on current topics of special interest
to parliamentarians.
The Liaison Program seeks to strengthen the link
among parliamentarians from the Inter-American region
as well as all-party parliamentary groups from other
regions of the world. The IAPG collaborates with
different groups from the civil society, including
U.N. agencies and other NGO coalitions, in order
to exchange ideas, information and best practices.
Past activities have included, among others, study
tours with parliamentarians, worldwide hemispheric
conferences, and small ‘Dialogue Sessions’ with
parliamentarians attending different U.N. meetings.
