• Caribbean
sub-regional meeting to assess the implementation
of the Programme of
Action (PoA) of the International Conference on
Population and Development (ICPD), to be held in
Port of Spain, Trinidad, on November 11-12, 2003.
This meeting, jointly organized by the ECLAC Subregional
Headquarters for the Caribbean and the UNFPA, will
provide members and associate member countries to
the Center for Development in Caribbean Countries
(CDCC) with the opportunity to carry out a subregional
technical review of their experiences in the implementation
of the ICPD PoA over the last decade.
• The International Medical Parliamentarians Organization
(IMPO) is organizing the International Medical Parliamentarians
Conference on Family Health. This global conference
will take place in Bangkok, Thailand, on December
6-7, 2003 and will include the participation of
parliamentarians from 10 Latin-American countries.
The program will center on family health and will
address the linkage between reproductive health
and women’s health, HIV/AIDS, mental health,
substance abuse, and ageing.
• The
Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) will hold
its forty-eighth session in March, 2004 at the
UN Headquarters in New York. This session of the
Commission will focus on two themes: i) the role
of men and boys in achieving gender equality and,
ii) women’s equal participation in conflict
prevention, management and conflict resolution,
and in post-conflict peace building.
The Meeting of the ECLAC Committee on Population
and Development will be held in the context of the
30th Session of ECLAC in San Juan, Puerto Rico,
in May 2004. The purpose of this meeting is to assess
the progress made in the Latin American and Caribbean
region regarding the implementation of the ICPD
PoA.
